Europe is also filled with amazing places. Although there are good reasons for wanting to see the most popular destinations, we’ve found that it’s often the less well known ones that offer the most magical experiences.

For example, opposite the steps that lead up to Parthenon in Athens is a smattering of scrub trees.  If you take the short trail that leads through them, you will emerge onto a rolling rock formation that is nearly unchanged from the beginning of time.  I consider this spot to be one of the most romantic places in the world, but you need to be very careful of your footing, even in good trail shoes.  You see, this has been a favorite spot for a romantic sunset picnic–since the dawn of civilization itself.  Over these many millennia,  the  footfalls of countless couples taking a picnic and a goatskin of wine to watch the sun set over the Aegean Sea has polished the minute surfaces of the rock so thoroughly it is as slippery  as if the whole formation was carved out of ice.

If you walk the streets of the old city in Prague, look down.  The sidewalks there are a continuous work of art with white and charcoal grey cobblestones forming a tapestry of stone.  Walking along, you will see every kind of subtly different pattern imaginable, each unique to the building it lies in front of…
